So I need to get back on the road, I'm broke, what do I do , go halves on a chinese Motorbike, the Hsun GY 200, Cheap and cheerful, But is it any good?
Well for £600 brand new not even plated yet, If it lasts a year I aint complaining! We havn't had it out on the road yet, but the bit of off roading we have done leaves me with the following impression:-
Its EXTREMELY good value for money! sure it has issues, but you know what? its a 200cc Bike that cost £600, its gonna have issues realistically!
My intention here is to provide as much information about this bike as I can for other people who are considering buying or have bought this bike or others of its ilk. I think over time, as we have discovered more of its strengths and weaknesses I may put together some sort of points check list, to help people not to run into some of the simple problems we did.
Anyways, Ill start off with some pictures : :-

For starters, the bike looks nice, I mean really, it looks the dogs doodahs, it could have looked like a steaming pile, but enough effort has been put into construction to make it actually look like a nice passable bike! this has to go down as a plus point.
Its heavy, I mean really heavy, this bike weighs more like what id expect a 400 or 500 to way, but that said it handles well, and is not unmanageable, its what I said before it was cheapo, if I wanted the latest light weightt bike i would have spent money on a KTM or Kwak or something 5 times as much, so the weightt as far as I'm concerned is in balance with amount paid!
It has an engine cut off swithch on the kick stand, seemed like a god idea at first, you put the foot stand down, the engine cuts off, hmmmm but what about when you want to start it up when you are working on it, and don't want to take it off the kick stand? Out comes the screw driver, disconnect annoying kick start stand switch. ( I will post a tutorial on doing this along with other maintenance soon ).
Not long after we got the bike, it stopped starting! and we saw some wires, melting and smoking! This was a worry, but a quick search on the internet led me to some posts of people with the same problems, it seems the ignition coil wires are placed to close to the exhaust! the exhaust melts the wires. it was the work of twenty minutes to take the panels and seat off find the two damaged wires, cut them back and replace them with some new wire, then using some cable ties, I went round the bike and made sure all wires etc were cable tied well out of the way of the exhaust. bike starts perfectly now first time.
The Battery that came with the bike seems a bit weedy, I think a new Bosch battery will replace it soon, it works fine but i wouldnt trust it for long!
I was worried about getting parts for these bikes, but I have found a good supplier who has been very helpful so far, http://www.china-parts.co.uk I would highly recommend these guys!
Ill update this post soon with more pictures, and ill try put together some basic maintenance and repair blogs as soon as.
Overall despite the early glitches, I am well happy with this bike, and would give it ten out of ten for value for money!
