Well, the iPhone 2 update and MobileMe is live, and so far looking good!
I'm still on the first iPhone, but will be going to get the free update to iPhone 2 this week,(gimme that 3G goodness - I bet the battery life will suck!, 3G always has with me before)
Anyways onto the update, its great, you can now put apps on the iPhone without having to jailbreak (tho im sure there will be still good reasons to jailbreak), what does this mean for me? it means that at last there is some decent e-Book reader software available for iPhone, something it was surely lacking without jailbreaking before (Books on a jailbroken iPhone is awesome by the way!) - So far the one im making the most use of is Bookshelf, its ok, but has some limitations, ie: it seems to load in sections rather than the whole book, can be confusing, but otherwise its ok, my prefered ereader of choice on my other systems (Palm, Mac) has always been eReader, a really nice eBook reader from http://www.ereader.com.
The problem so far with eReader on the iPhone is its inability to read eBooks that you already have (ie: not in the ereader bookshelf) as I have a collection of THOUSANDS of eBooks, this is obviously a problem, hence me using Bookshelf, however all is not lost! HOORAY! this post from Steve of fictionwise the creators of the eReader app for iPhone clears up my initial doubts about the first release of iPhone ereader -
in reply to a post on http://tinleyharrier.blogspot.com/2008/07/iphone-ereader-review-continued.html - Blog worthy of a bookmark.
"Hi,
I'm Steve Pendergrast of Fictionwise.
We are in the process of adding a way to upload personal content (pdb and palm doc) as well as ereader files you bought elsewhere.
We are also of course continuing to develop the ereader iphone app. We'll be coming out with a more feature rich release in just a few weeks. We did have to keep it simple to make the grand opening of the app store, but we're filling in the gaps even now. It will take several more releases, several weeks apart each, to get in all the features we think are necessary. But you have to start somewhere.
Take care,
Steve P."
So all seems good on the iPhone eReader Front!
Cant wait for the new versions to come out!
Peace
